Podcast #3: PD injector retainers, PD injector bridge and the new 16V PD injector bridge explained.
Simon Schoßböck, Managing Director of 07eins GmbH and original inventor of the 07eins PD injector solutions, explains the familiar unit injector problem — and shows why even 16V 2.0 litre TDI engines with Bosch PD injectors secured with two bolts may need additional stabilisation.
The problem
Damage often begins before you notice it.
Many TDI engines with unit injectors still appear to run normally in daily use, even though a critical process may already be starting in the cylinder head. The unit injectors are subjected to high loads during operation. Over many kilometres, they can move slightly, tilt or wear into the cylinder head.
If this reduces sealing performance, diesel can reach the engine oil. The oil loses lubricating ability, bearing surfaces are subjected to higher loads and, in the worst case, severe engine damage can occur. This is precisely why the PD injector problem is so important for TDI drivers.
A TDI may still be drivable — while a critical process is already starting inside the engine.
The 07eins solution
From the PD injector retainer to the 16V PD injector bridge.
The original 07eins PD injector retainers were developed because the conventional PD injector bridge cannot be used on every unit injector engine. In many 3- and 4-cylinder engines in particular, space under the valve cover is limited.
The PD injector retainer therefore specifically stabilises each individual PD injector body. The new 16V PD injector bridge consistently develops this principle further — for 16V 2.0 litre TDI engines with Bosch unit injectors secured with two bolts.
- PD injector retainers for many 3-, 4-, 5- and 10-cylinder PD injector TDI engines.
- 16V PD injector bridge for suitable 16V 2.0 litre TDI engines with Bosch PD injectors secured with two bolts.
- Developed for additional unit injector stabilisation.
- Designed for less movement, fewer wear marks and better protection of the cylinder head.
Original 07eins
Simon Schoßböck: original inventor of the 07eins PD injector solutions.
The PD injector bridge, PD injector retainers and new 16V PD injector bridge are not random accessories. They are technical solutions developed in response to a real engine problem. Simon Schoßböck, Managing Director of 07eins GmbH, developed the original 07eins solutions for the unit injector problem through personal experience, technical analysis and continuous development.
The products follow the same underlying principle: stabilise unit injectors, reduce movement, protect cylinder heads and preserve TDI engines for the long term.
Simply explained
How can PD injector movement and diesel in the oil be connected?
If a unit injector moves or tilts within the cylinder head, this can place loads on the seat and sealing surfaces. If the resulting seal fails, diesel can enter the engine oil. Additional PD injector stabilisation addresses this mechanical movement; suitable new seals complement the repair.
The latest 07eins PD injector solution
The 16V PD injector bridge for 16V 2.0 litre TDI engines.
From 15:00 onwards, the podcast covers the latest PD injector development from 07eins: the 16V PD injector bridge for 16V 2.0 litre TDI engines with Bosch unit injectors secured with two bolts.
This solution was developed relatively late because PD injectors secured with two bolts appear more stable at first glance. The obvious assumption was that, if the PD injector is already secured with two bolts, its movement should be sufficiently controlled.
However, practical experience revealed a different picture. Even PD injectors secured with two bolts can move within the cylinder head due to operating forces, leverage and minimal movement. Wear marks can therefore develop even though the design initially appears more secure.
- For suitable 16V 2.0 litre TDI engines with Bosch PD injectors secured with two bolts.
- Developed because even PD injectors secured with two bolts can move under load.
- Reduces unwanted movement and provides additional PD injector stabilisation.
- Not intended for Siemens unit injectors.
Bridge, retainer or 16V bridge?
Three 07eins solutions. One goal: stabilise PD injectors.
For families, campers and everyday drivers
When your TDI is more than just a car.
Many TDI drivers use their vehicles for more than a hobby. They are family cars, towing vehicles, campervans, vans or everyday cars. This is precisely why the PD injector problem is so serious: if a vehicle breaks down due to diesel ingress into the oil or cylinder head damage during a long journey, on holiday or in everyday use, it can quickly become expensive.
A carefully designed technical preventative solution can therefore make sense if the vehicle is to be kept for the long term.
Repair rather than discard
Preserving value is also sustainable.
Many older TDI vehicles still offer considerable practical value. Rather than writing vehicles off prematurely, 07eins focuses on technical repair and preventative solutions that keep existing engines usable for longer.
This makes economic sense and also helps preserve value. If it makes technical sense to keep a vehicle in use, a precisely developed solution is often a better answer than premature replacement.
Which 07eins solution suits my TDI?
For VW T5 2.5 TDI engines (all engine codes), the PD injector bridge is one product option for additional PD injector stabilisation. PD injector retainers stabilise individual PD injector bodies and are available as appropriate sets for 3-, 4-, 5- or 10-cylinder engines, depending on the engine. Suitable 2.0 TDI 16V engines with BOSCH PD injectors have their own 16V PD injector bridge. The PFS-Kit takes a different approach: it is intended to prevent the fuel lines from draining after the engine is switched off. Vehicle details, engine code, PD injector version and specific findings help with selection; the PDE Problem Check provides initial guidance.
