Aluminum PDE bridge: Stress-free fixation is better than rigid fixation
Share
The PDE bridge from 07eins consists of an aluminum cross member and tool steel brackets to protect the PDE diesel engine permanently and stress-free. A stress-free fixation of the PDE is possible due to the production tolerances of the TDI engine, it is essential to prevent engine damage due to tensioning of the PDEs. avoid. Based on our many years of development work, we cannot recommend rigid PDE bridges, such as one-piece PDE bridges made of tool steel, to our customers, as these rigid PDE bridges cannot compensate for manufacturing tolerances.
Why the right PDE bridge is crucial - tension-free fixing, permanent protection
Manufacturing tolerances in the TDI engine - a technical reality in the cylinder head
When developing and repairing VW T5 2.5 TDI engines, many workshops and engine manufacturers are faced with a well-known problem: The pump-nozzle elements (PDE) are located in the cylinder head not all at exactly the same height.
These slight differences are caused by manufacturing tolerances in the casting of the cylinder head and in the machining of the PDE bores. In practice, this means
- Some injectors sit slightly higher,
- others slightly lower in their recordings.
To compensate for these differences, the rocker arms of the PDE are equipped with adjusting screws equipped. They allow the respective height offset to be compensated for individually - an important step in ensuring a clean injection function.
The challenge of attaching PDE bridges
If the PDEs are connected to each other by a PDE bridge, the question arises:
How do you deal with the different heights of the injectors?
Would one one-piece, rigid PDE bridge made from tool steel even small deviations in the installation height can have a negative effect:
- The PDE bridge no longer rests stress-free.
- Higher injectors generate local pressurelower injectors maintain no secure contact.
- The result is tensionwhich affect the connecting brackets, injectors and the cylinder head itself.can be transferred.
Our tests with rigid PDE bridge variants - both one-piece and with different materials - have shown that under these conditions long-term stress cracks can occur in the cylinder head. A solution was needed that would meet the special requirements of these engines.
Our solution: The 07eins PDE bridge made of aluminum
Based on intensive development work, we have designed a PDE bridge that actively meets these challenges:
Our solution is based on an targeted aluminum alloywhich is characterized by defined elasticity and high stability at the same time.
The advantages:
- The bridge actively compensates for manufacturing toleranceswithout transferring unnecessary forces to the injectors or cylinder head.
- The bridge distributes the clamping forces evenly across all PDEinstead of building up pressure at certain points.
- It enables a low-stress, long-lasting supporteven if the PDEs are not exactly aligned.
- With slightly different heights, it continues to ensure clean guidance and fixing of the injectors.
Particularly important:
Even with less ideal head geometries - i.e. with PDEs that sit slightly lower and do not rest completely on the head. the fixation remains significantly improved compared to the standard clamping shoe solution. This is because our bridge transfers the forces vertically via guided brackets - instead of diagonally via tilting clamping shoes, as is the case with the standard version.
For special cases: The 07eins PDE body holder
In extreme cases, with very unfavorable combinations of tolerances, we also offer our PDE body holders are also available. They are mounted directly on the individual PDE and have a independent of the neighboring elements.
The advantage:
Even with very large height differences, the injector directly and precisely on the machined wall surface of the cylinder head. and guided - without transferring stresses to other components.
Conclusion: Flexibility where it counts
Our experience from countless applications and tests shows:
A PDE bridge does not have to be as rigid as possible - it has to adapt to the reality of the TDI engine.
With the original 07eins PDE bridge, you are opting for a a technically sophisticated, tried-and-tested solutionthat both cylinder head and injectors permanently, reliably and without stress cracks.
