In the VW T5 2.5 TDI, the unit injectors can become displaced within the cylinder head or wear into the sealing surfaces due to vibrations and stress. At the same time, starting problems can arise after periods of inactivity if the fuel supply is no longer reliable.

Identifying typical PDE problems

These symptoms may indicate wandering or leaking PDE injectors

Many T5 drivers don’t initially look for a PD injector bridge or a performance set, but rather for the symptoms: poor starting, jerking, loss of power, prolonged stalling or a rising oil level. It is precisely these signs that can occur in the VW T5 2.5 TDI if the unit injectors in the cylinder head no longer fit properly, the seals are not sealing reliably, or the fuel supply is not stable after the vehicle has been stationary for some time.

Smoke coming from the exhaust

A PD injector bridge must do more than simply connect the unit injectors as rigidly as possible. What matters is how the system behaves during actual engine operation: during cold starts, whilst warming up, under vibration, during load changes and during subsequent cooling.

This is precisely why 07eins relies on a multi-part PD injector bridge with an aluminium connecting strip and tempered steel brackets. The bridge’s elongated structure operates thermally closer to the aluminium cylinder head. The high-stress clamping areas are made of quenched and tempered steel, optimised for a balance of toughness and strength — precisely where the holding force is really needed.

The technical core: aluminium behaves differently to steel

The cylinder head of the VW T5 2.5 TDI is made of aluminium. Aluminium expands significantly more than steel when heated. During operation, the cylinder head can move along the length of the PD injector bridge by an amount that is technically significant in engine design.
