What is a PDE bridge?

The PDE bridge, also known as a pump-nozzle bridge, is a repair tool used in TDI diesel vehicles with pump-nozzle injection systems from the VW Group to fix and permanently center the fuel injectors (PDEs) in the cylinder head. They prevent the injectors from shifting or working their way into the cylinder head due to vibrations in the engine.

What are the benefits of a PDE bridge?

The PDE bridge prevents the PDE injectors from moving as a result of the factory design and fixes the PDE injectors in such a way that they return to their original position and can no longer move due to engine vibrations or work their way into the cylinder head. The sealing rings remain in their target position and can seal perfectly again.

The original PDE bridge is now a tried and tested means of repairing damaged cylinder heads and preventing damage to the injector sealing seats that could jeopardize their function. The PDE bridge was developed by 07eins in 2015 and has since been installed in tens of thousands of vehicles.

How does a PDE bridge work?

How it works:

  • The PDE bridge is placed on the injection nozzles and fixes and centers them in their original position in the cylinder head.
  • The PDE bridge prevents the nozzles from moving due to engine vibrations, working their way into the cylinder head and thus damaging the gaskets or causing leaks.
  • The fixation maintains the original position of the nozzles, which ensures optimum functioning of the injection system.

Application:

  • The PDE bridge is mainly used in VW T5 models with 2.5 TDI engines, but is also used in other vehicles with 2.5 TDI pump-injector systems.
  • It is used both to repair damaged cylinder heads and to prevent future cylinder head damage

How is the PDE bridge installed?

Installation is carried out without any modifications to the cylinder head or add-on parts.

Our modular, utility model-protected system ensures problem-free assembly and disassembly through the use of individual components, as well as the tolerance compensation of the individual injectors to each other necessary for uniform pressure distribution, thanks to the flexible connecting strip made of special aluminum alloy.

Our PDE bridge consists of a coordinated combination of high-quality aluminum and tool steel for tension-free fixing of the PDE and is therefore more advantageous than one-piece PDE bridges made of tool steel. In a large number of cases, it is no longer necessary to replace the damaged cylinder head, as the newly centered PDE can also seal again in damaged sealing surfaces (further details can be found in the "Pump-nozzle remedy" section).

The effectiveness depends largely on the condition and the existing previous damage to the seating surfaces; if the run-in marks are noticeably deep, a repair can be attempted in combination with our reinforced Viton sealing rings.

Our recommendation for severely damaged cylinder heads

Reinforced VITON gasket rings in combination with our original PDE bridge also help in the event of severe run-in marks in the cylinder head: thanks to their larger diameter than the standard gasket rings, they keep the cylinder head tight again, while the PDE bridge fixes the PDEs in place and prevents them from working their way back into the cylinder head.
