Why unit injector seals are so important in TDI engines.
In TDI engines with unit injectors, the unit injectors sit directly in the cylinder head. Sealing rings on the PD injector provide the seal. If these seals become brittle, damaged or unevenly loaded by movement of the PD injectors, their sealing performance can deteriorate.
This can result in typical PD injector problems: difficulty starting, rough running, juddering, loss of power, diesel in the engine oil or a rising oil level. That is precisely why unit injector seals should consistently be replaced when working on the unit injectors, rather than simply reused.
These symptoms may indicate leaking or moving PD injectors
Many customers initially search for symptoms rather than unit injector seals. Particularly in older TDI engines with unit injectors, leaking or improperly seated unit injectors can cause a range of problems.
The engine is harder to start in the morning, after a long period of standing or even when warm. It often needs prolonged cranking before the TDI runs properly.
The engine runs roughly, shakes at idle or responds unevenly while driving. Impaired PD injector sealing can affect injection conditions.
If the seal at the unit injector no longer works properly, this can become apparent when driving: less power, sluggish pulling power or uneven acceleration.
If the oil level appears to rise or the engine oil smells of diesel, fuel may be entering the engine oil. This is critical for the bearings, camshaft, turbocharger and engine lubrication.
Diesel in the engine oil is a warning sign that should be taken seriously. When the oil is diluted, its lubricating ability decreases — increasing the risk of expensive consequential damage.
If the seals have already been replaced and the problems return after a short time, the cause often lies not just in the seal itself but in the mechanical seating of the PD injector.
What reinforced VITON unit injector seals do
The reinforced VITON unit injector seals replace the old sealing rings on the unit injector and help improve sealing around the PD injector seat. They are particularly useful when unit injectors are being removed anyway as part of a repair, overhaul or diagnosis.
Reinforced seals alone do not provide a lasting solution to the PD injector problem
Reinforced VITON unit injector seals are an important part of a professional unit injector repair. However, they do not eliminate the underlying design-related cause of the problem. If the unit injectors continue to move, tilt or wear into the sealing surfaces in the cylinder head, even new and reinforced seals will be subjected to stress again.
If only new unit injector seals are fitted without mechanically stabilising the unit injectors, the cause remains. The PD injectors can continue to move and place uneven stress on the seals again. In practice, this can mean that the repair lasts only a few thousand kilometres — then starting problems, a rising oil level, diesel in the oil or leaks return.
A lasting repair requires mechanical PD injector fixation
A lasting, effective solution therefore only comes from the combined system: the reinforced VITON unit injector seals provide the sealing. The ORIGINAL 07eins PD injector bridge or ORIGINAL 07eins PD injector retainers also stabilise the unit injectors mechanically. This precise combination prevents the new seals from being overloaded again by moving PD injectors.
Centres and stabilises the unit injectors in the VW T5 2.5 TDI. This keeps the PD injectors in a more clearly defined position again, allowing the seals to work more effectively over the long term.

Do not regard reinforced VITON unit injector seals as a lasting solution on their own. If the known issue of PD injector movement is already the cause, the unit injector must also be fixed mechanically — using the ORIGINAL 07eins PD injector bridge or ORIGINAL 07eins PD injector retainers, depending on the engine. Only this approach addresses the PD injector problem for the long term and gives the repair a chance to provide lasting peace of mind.
Why unit injector seals should always be replaced during an engine overhaul
Once unit injectors have been removed, their seals should not be reused. The old sealing rings have already been exposed to thermal stress, fuel contact, pressure, movement and ageing. Reusing them can significantly reduce the reliability of the repair.
With age, temperature and fuel contact, seals gradually lose their elasticity. This can reduce their ability to seal.
Sealing rings can also be damaged or deformed when the unit injectors are removed. That is why they should always be replaced.
Poor sealing can contribute to starting problems, diesel in the oil, a rising oil level and consequential damage.
If the PD injectors are accessible anyway, replacing the seals is a sensible step towards a sound repair.

Choose the seal set that matches the type of PD injector fitted; a separate version is available for compatible 16V BOSCH PD injectors.
When are reinforced unit injector seals useful?
When unit injectors are removed, tested or newly stabilised, it makes sense to replace the appropriate seals during the same operation. Particularly in cylinder heads with wear in the injector seats, reinforced VITON seals are recommended over standard unit injector seals. This applies, for example, to PD injector repairs, engine overhauls or the installation of a PD injector bridge or PD injector retainers. For compatible 16V BOSCH PD injectors, choose the dedicated 16V version.

ich bin unglaublich zufrieden mit den neuen Dichtungen. Diese haben tatsächlich das Problem mit den undichten PD-Elementen vorerst gelöst.
Wenn der Wagen wieder komplett hergerichtet ist, werden noch die speziellen Halter mit verbaut werden.
Weiterhin hat man einen unglaublich guten Ansprechpartner, der am Telefon wie auch per Mail immer sehr gut verständlich, freundlich und hilfsbereit Auskunft gibt.
