When PD injectors move, a repair confined to the seals is often no longer sufficient.
In TDI engines with unit injectors, vibration, accumulated mileage and loads can cause the injectors to move within the cylinder head or wear into the sealing surfaces. As a result, the sealing rings no longer sit optimally, sealing deteriorates and typical PD injector problems can arise.

These symptoms may indicate moving or leaking PD injectors
Many drivers initially search for symptoms rather than PD injector retainers: poor starting, juddering, loss of power or a rising oil level. These are precisely the signs that can occur in TDI engines with unit injectors when the injectors no longer sit properly in the cylinder head, move slightly or the seals no longer seal reliably.
The engine is harder to start in the morning, after a long period of inactivity, or even when the engine is warm. Often, you have to crank it for longer until the TDI runs smoothly.
The engine runs roughly at idle, shakes or responds unevenly whilst driving. This may indicate a misaligned PD injector, a leak or uneven fuel injection.
The TDI no longer pulls as it used to, accelerates more sluggishly or feels less powerful under load. An imperfect seal or altered injection conditions can noticeably impair engine performance.
The oil level appears to be rising or the engine oil smells of diesel. This may be caused by diesel in the engine oil — a risk to bearings, the camshaft, the turbocharger and general engine lubrication.
If the engine oil smells distinctly of diesel, the cause should be investigated promptly. Diesel in the oil reduces lubricity and can cause costly consequential damage in the long term.
If the engine is no longer injecting fuel cleanly or combusting efficiently, diesel consumption may increase. This symptom is often first noticed during everyday driving or on longer journeys.
Black or bluish smoke may indicate incomplete combustion, oil burning or a faulty injection system. This should be checked, particularly if accompanied by starting problems or jerking.
If the engine warning light comes on or faults are logged in the injection system, it is important to check not only the individual component but also the mechanical condition of the PD injector seat.
If seals have already been replaced and the problems recur, the cause often lies deeper: the PDE must be mechanically stabilised so that the seal can operate permanently in its correct position.
If the battery, starter motor or glow plug system have already been checked and the engine is still struggling to start, the PDE injector condition should also be taken into account.

The ORIGINAL 07eins PD injector retainers were developed as a mechanical solution for typical problems in TDI engines with unit injectors. They stabilise the unit injectors where movement and loads arise: directly at the PD injector body.
The system is designed as a practical repair solution and enables the PDE injectors to be secured more firmly without the need for mechanical machining of the cylinder head. This makes it suitable both for repairing existing problems and for preventative stabilisation.
In many cases, newly stabilised PDEs can seal more effectively even on sealing surfaces that are already damaged. However, their effectiveness always depends on the condition of the seating surfaces and any pre-existing damage.

What are PDE body supports – and are PDE repair supports the same thing?
PDE body supports provide additional stabilisation for the body of each unit injector in the cylinder head. This reduces movement and relieves stress on the seal at the PDE seat. They are also referred to as PDE repair supports on the market. The individual supports also allow suitable solutions for engine designs where there is no room for the classic PDE bridge.
For which engines are PD injector retainers available?
PD injector retainers are available in versions suitable for VAG unit injector engines with 3, 4, 5 or 10 cylinders. The selection depends on the engine and the specific PD injector variant actually fitted. Please provide the vehicle details and engine code letters for identification; a model designation or the lettering ‘TDI’ alone is not sufficient for this purpose.
How do you fit PD injector retainers?
