Signs of PDE problems in TDI engines

Starting problems

General difficulties starting the engine, not only when warm.

Problems with idling

Unsteady, fluctuating or too low idling.

Loss of performance and jerking

The engine no longer pulls properly, reduced acceleration or top speed.

Increase in oil

Diesel fuel gets into the engine oil, recognizable by the increased oil level or the smell of fuel in the oil.

Engine warning lights up

The check engine light in the dashboard signals a problem in the engine management system.

Increase in fuel consumption

The engine requires noticeably more diesel fuel for the same distance.

Smoke development from the exhaust (increased exhaust emission values during the general inspection)

Increased black or blue smoke from the exhaust indicates incomplete combustion or oil combustion.
